Strengthening Ontario’s Intellectual Property Rights Regime

The OCC believes that the key to stimulating economic productivity are initiatives that help businesses become more innovative such as the creation of the Ministry of Research and Innovation and more recently, the introduction of the Ontario innovation tax credit (OITC). New funding measures supporting research, development and scientific innovation will indeed foster innovation by helping creative people market ideas which can lead to higher quality jobs and overall increased economic growth for Ontario.

In a recent letter to Ontario Research and Innovation Minister, the OCC urges the province to go further to strengthen its innovation agenda by increasing attention to intellectual property (IP) rights. IP is a critical element needed to increase business competitiveness and, we believe, must be included in any new strategy aimed to support research and development, investment and commercialization.
