In Len Crispino’s latest column in The Business Executive, he highlights the continuing need to look at the skilled trades shortage facing the Canadian economy.
“It may seem odd to be speaking of workforce shortages today while so many people are concerned about the security of their current jobs. However, only a few months ago, the aging workforce was one of the most critical issues facing Ontario businesses. And although the shortages may have been overshadowed by the economic pressures facing our province, the fact is, we’re still not getting any younger.
Furthermore, an economic transformation is underway in Ontario which will see more jobs requiring people with more education and training. To meet the needs of the new economy, Ontario’s existing workers, as well as new immigrants, will need to be more highly skilled.”
