Latest developments on the Detroit River International Crossing

The Michigan Department of Transportation  (MDOT) and Transport Canada  have issued a request for proposals from firms with experience in infrastructure projects related to the new international border crossing between Detroit and Windsor.

MDOT and Transport Canada recently released a Request for Proposal of Interest (RFPI) to individual firms or teams with experience in developing and/or financing large transportation infrastructure projects either in North America or internationally, and that are interested in the development of the Detroit River International Crossing project under one or more public-private partnerships.

The deadline for individual firms or teams to submit a response is March 17, 2010 at 3pm. Other interested parties will not be precluded from participation in a future qualifications process, according to the Michigan and Canadian governments.

These responses will be used in developing government policy, in structuring the procurement process and the project agreement, as well as briefing the legislative branch of the State of Michigan and the executive branch of the Government of Canada. The results of the RFPI will be used by MDOT in a required report to the Michigan Legislature, to be submitted by May 1, 2010.

Questions regarding the RFPI process must be submitted in writing to Mohammed Alghurabi, Michigan Department of Transportation, at alghurabim@michigan.gov. The deadline for questions is March 2, 2010 by 3 pm. Responses to questions will be distributed by MDOT via email by March 9, 2010.
