This morning 49 OCC members and representatives met with Minister Matthews to discuss the challenges facing health care and its future direction in the province. The session involved a productive dialogue in which the Minister expanded on several key planks of the government’s health care agenda. Her overarching message was that “significant changes” are required in the sector to improve the province’s fiscal capacity, adding that the government is looking “very very carefully at getting the best value for the money we spend.”
The government’s main thrusts to achieve greater efficiency in health care are making better use of existing resources and integrating research and innovation with the development of new technology, processes, and products. The minister issued a call to the business community to be a part of the solution, welcoming input into how to leverage existing ideas into a state of the art, full spectrum health care system. She confirmed the government’s commitment to working together with business in order to create a strong climate for research and innovation in the context of health care sustainability.
