The Ontario Government has released draft rules and regulations that will govern how all physical structures and surrounding pathways and areas must be designed and constructed in order to fully accommodate those with disabilities.
While the OCC is supportive of rules and regulations that serve to make Ontario more accessible, we have reminded government that the proposed Built Environment Standardsshould recognize that accessibility standards must take into account the fiscal, economic, and technical realities that businesses face. The government needs to balance accessibility principles with an understanding of how technical requirements may negatively impact the competitiveness of businesses and the economy.
