The Ontario Chamber of Commerce congratulates our members, Cameco and the Port Hope and District Chamber of Commerce, on their successful bid to keep Cameco’s Ontario facilities powering Ontario’s energy supply.
Cameco is a core part of Ontario’s energy supply, providing 100% of the natural uranium that fuels the CANDU reactors, and about 50% of the fuel bundles that go into the reactor core.
The renewal of Cameco’s operating licenses after a comprehensive review and public hearing process demonstrates what the Chamber Network can achieve by working together. A stable and secure energy baseload is key to a predictable and cost-effective future energy supply.
In its letter of support to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, the Port Hope Chamber illustrated Cameco’s dedication to responsible corporate citizenship, and its vital contribution to the local community. In 2009, Cameco received the Chamber’s Business Excellence Award for Environmental Excellence, and was the 2010 recipient of the Manufacturing Excellence Award.
Cameco regularly supports the Port Hope Chamber’s Business Excellence Awards, Annual Golf Tournament, and many other activities.
On behalf of the entire Ontario Chamber of Commerce Network, congratulations to both organizations.
